About Andy Bogaart and Bogaart Boats....

I started Bogaart Boats back in September of 2011, but the idea for a full service marine company has always been in the back of my mind.  Back in April of 1994, I founded and operated a company called Corellian Consulting...and while Corellian Consulting was all about construction and project management, my free time was spent thinking about and messing about on boats.  You could call it an obsession.  An obsession that started around the same time I learned how to walk.  When I was 14 years old, I built my first boat out of frustration because my father said we couldn't afford to buy one.  I called it "All Wrong" because my father kept telling me during the build process that I was doing it "All Wrong".  Despite doing everything, "All Wrong", she sailed and she sailed well and lasted quite a few years before I lost track of her.

A few years after "All Wrong", I purchased a 14' Hobie Cat Turbo and would sail her on Lake Ontario for hours on end.  I was amazed at how something so simple could move so fast under the right conditions.  It was an amazing boat for the money.  After that, it was the complete restoration of a 24' Venture, and then a 30' Catalina Tall Rig, a 14' Sunfish, a 40' Silverton Aft-Cabin, and then finally, a Hunter Passage 42.  The Silverton marked my move from land-dweller to full time live-aboard, and I also lived aboard and sailed most of the east coast on the Hunter Passage 42.

During 2002 - 2003, I took a year off from work to sail down the coast to Florida.  It was the events of 9/11 that pushed my cruising dream into reality.  It was a good time to just leave and find out what else life had to offer.  It was a fantastic adventure, and it's not something I will ever forget, or probably come to terms with.  Being out there and being free of everything was truly amazing.  Long story short, I ended up back in New York a year later and was lost as to what my next adventure might be.

Eight years later, I found myself face to face with another great adventure.  A family friend owned a 1984 Ron Carter designed catboat, and she needed a lot of work.  I approached owner with the following; "You either sell her as-is, or you let me start working on her...either way, you can't let her just sit there and rot away!”  Much to my surprise...he told me to get to work.  The rest is documented in pictures on the website's "Projects" page. I hope you take some time to take a look.

It was during the catboat restoration that I realized I had all the skills to make a difference and Bogaart Boats was born.  Corellian Consulting is still in operation, and we're as busy as ever, but my goal is that Bogaart Boats will grow, and maybe even eclipse my success with Corellian Consulting. Until then...we'll see you out on the water!
